Women's Tennis Shuts Out Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team shut out conference foe Averett University 9-0 on the road on Wednesday.

Wesleyan's #2 and #3 doubles teams swept their foes 8-0 each while the Lady Bishop top team of Fariza Abdulloeva / Milena Amedieva won 8-4 to put the Bishops up 3-0 early.

The women then dominated 5 of their 6 singles matches with 41st ranked freshman Milena Amedieva upsetting Averett's #1 player and 21st ranked Heidi Sarkkinen 7-6, 7-6. It was Sarkkinen's first dual  loss in two years. Amedieva beat her in two close tiebreakers winning 7-5 and 8-6. 

Senior Stephany Barbera and Louise Hovhammer each won 6-0, 6-0 at #5 and #6 singles while sophomore Julianna Johnson won 6-0, 6-1 at #3. Junior Nicole Halabi and Giulia Zanetti also each won with Zanetti winning 6-2, 6-2 at #2 singles and Halabi winning 6-4, 6-2 at #4 singles.

The Ladies improve to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference with their 4th straight win while Averett falls to 5-4 and 1-1. The women return to action Sunday with a non-conference match at The College of New Jersey at 11:00 AM.
