Lady Bishop Tennis Dominate Piedmont en Route to Conference Title

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The 2021 USA South Women's Tennis Conference Tournament concluded on Saturday with East top-seed N.C. Wesleyan College taking home the championship on their home courts.

The #11 Lady Bishops defeated West top-seed and 12th ranked Piedmont, 5-0, to earn their 3rd consecutive championship.

Freshman Rookie of the Year Stefanie Wilske led the charge for the Bishops earning Tournament MVP as she went 4-0 throughout the event including dominating the USA South Player of the Year, Imani Vincent 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles today and teaming with fellow freshman and all-tournament member Elisa Mariotti at the top doubles line to win 8-5 as they rallied from a 5-2 deficit.

Seniors Giulia Zanetti and Talitha Rowan then cruised through their #2 doubles match 8-3 while Junior Chandler Brice teamed with freshman Julia Schoorsmans to win a hard-fought 8-6 match at #3 doubles to give Wesleyan the 3-0 lead.

After Wilske's win made it 4-0, Zanetti then stepped up to roll through her foe at the 2nd line 6-2, 6-0 to clinch the win and the championship for the Bishops

Rowan was then the 4th and final member of the All-tournament team for the Lady Bishops as she was winning her match at the 5th spot 6-2, 4-1 before the match was called today.

Wesleyan improves to 10-6 on the year with their 7th straight win while Piedmont falls to 16-6.

The Bishops, who are ranked 11th in the South Region, will next await their first round NCAA tournament regional foe which will be held in Rocky Mount from May 13-16.
