Women's Tennis Falls to Carnegie Mellon in NCAA Second Round

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The 11th ranked NC Wesleyan College women's tennis fell 5-1 to Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Rocky Mount on Saturday afternoon.

The loss ended the Lady Bishops' 7 game-win streak as they finish the season 10-7. This was the first time hosting the NCAA Regional for the men's and women's tennis teams.

Seniors Talitha Rowan and Giulia Zanetti got the Bishops their lone win of the match as they led throughout in their 8-5 win at the #2 doubles spot. The #1 doubles team of freshmen Stefanie Wilske and Elisa Mariotti then suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss in their spot falling 7-4 in the tiebreaker after getting broken while serving for the match.

CMU (13-2) then took a 2-1 lead into the singles where they clinched the win with wins in the #4, 5 and 6 spots to advance to Sunday's Noon regional final against Mary Washington (13-2).

Mariotti was leading 2-1 in her second set when the match was halted while Wilske was down just 3-4 in her second set as well.
