Freshman Kristal Dule Qualifies for ITA Cup after Unprecedented Runner-Up Performance

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team competed at the ITA Fall Regional in Sewanee, TN over the weekened.

Freshman Kristal Dule ended up leading the Bishops with a 2nd place finish in the tournament which included defeating Christina Watson of Emory in the semifinals 7-6. 6-4. Watson is Currently ranked #2 in the nation and was an NCAA Finalist in 2020 Individual Singles Tournament. 

Dule then fell 5-7, 2-6 in the finals to another woman from Emory.  Dule Qualifies for the ITA Cup along with fellow men's player Jhonny Acosta later this month (Oct. 14-16) after her unprecedented performance.

En route to the finals, Dule also played a 4.5 hour match to defeat Emma Cartledge, a 2019 All-American, to advance to the quarterfinals, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Dule began her run by easily winning her first two matches on Friday 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the Round of 16. After her long 3-set win in the third round, Dule then rolled in the quartefinals 6-2, 6-1 over Sewanee before her big semifinal win.

Dule then teamed with fellow freshman Eleonora Rescia to win one match in the doubles draw 8-1 before falling 8-7 to Sewanee in the next round. 

Eleonora Rescia and Elisa Mariotti also won one match each in the main singles draw.
