Women's Tennis Falls to John Carroll and Winona St.

Orlando, FL (Lake Cane Tennis Center) - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team fell 6-3 to John Carroll University in their second match of the Orlando Spring Break Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Bishops then fell 6-1 to Div. II Winona St. University on Wednesday morning as well.

In the JCU match, the Lady Bishops were led by singles wins from 7th ranked freshman Kristal Dule at the #1 spot and sophomore Elisa Mariotti at the #2 spot while the duo also teamed up to win 8-2 at the top doubles line.

Dule won her bout 6-0, 6-0 to continue her domination while Mariotti won 6-3, 6-2. Senior Chandler Brice and freshman Isabella Gastelumendi dropped a hard-fought 8-6 match at the #2 doubles line while Brice put up a good effort in falling 6-1, 6-4 at the #4 line of singles.

The women then returned to action on Wednesday when they took on Winona St. but dropped a 6-1 decision to the D-2 foe. Dule again led the Bishops winning 6-4, 6-4 at the top singles line while teaming up with Mariotti to win 6-4 at the top doubles line. However, the #2 team of Brice and Gastelumendi then fell 6-2 in doubles while Wesleyan fell by forfeit in the 3rd doubles spot causing WSU to take the doubles lead at 1-0 as doubles counts as one decision in Div. II.

Mariotti then dropped a thrilling match at the #2 singles line winning the first set 6-3 before falling 2-6, and 5-10 in a third set tiebreak. Isabella then fell 6-2, 6-3 at the third line as WSU swept the rest of the singles matches to get the win and improve to 10-3.

Wesleyan falls to 0-3 overall and will next battle D-1 Creighton down in Orlando on Thursday.
