Wesleyan Track Competes at Liberty Qualifer

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The NC Wesleyan men's and women's track teams competed in one of the "Last Chance" meets at Liberty University (Va.) on Wednesday as they try to qualify for the NCAA Nationals.

Freshman Rookie of the Year sprinter Mariah Brooks led the women placing 4th overall in the 100 meter dash finals in a time of 12.34 seconds while her qualifying time had her third in 12.4 seconds.

Brooks and junior teammate Teanna Bellamy then both competed in the 400 meter dash. Bellamy led the way in that event placing 8th out of 14 in 1:01 while Brooks was right behind in 10th in 1:03.

The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Brooks, Bellamy, senior Bijou Patel, and freshman Assata Sirleaf, then placed 2nd in a time of 49.4 seconds falling by three seconds to the D-1 host Liberty.

Patel then competed in the women's Long Jump finishing 17th overall with a mark of 4.46 meters.

On the men's side, senior Keyonte Williams  placed 6th overall in the 400 meter hurdles running a time of 1:01 as he ran in a group of all Div. I and II athletes.

The track teams will next compete in a Qualifying meet on Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 PM at Mount Olive University.
