Bishops Advance With 3-0 Sweep of Meredith

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Junior libero Shana Ayers tallied a match-high 19 digs to help lead her 4th-seeded Wesleyan volleyball squad to a 3-0 sweep of 5th-seeded Meredith in the opening round of the 2011 USA South Conference Tournament. Set scores were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-18.

The Bishops benefited from the Angels' negative hitting percentage in the first set and amassed 11 kills against just five errors of their own en route to a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set mirrored the first statistically, while the third saw NCWC turn in a match-high 15 kills to secure the sweep.

Junior Meredith Smith was the only player to reach double-digit kills with 13 on the night, and Anna Hart added eight. The pair completed double-doubles with 13 and 18 digs, respectively. Playing in her final match at Everett Gymnasium, senior Mackenzie Tingle turned in seven kills, 28 assists and five service aces.

With the win, the Bishops secured their fifth straight 20-win season and now stand at 20-10 overall heading into Friday night's semifinal action. Wesleyan will take on top-seeded Christopher Newport at 7:30 p.m. in Newport News.
