Rocky Mount, N.C. - In one of their most impressive performances of the season, the Battling Bishops cruised to a 3-0 sweep of the University of Mary Washington in Saturday's non-conference volleyball action at Everett Gymnasium. Senior Kristi Lucas paved the way with a double-double of 35 assists and 11 digs en route to 25-21, 25-22 and 27-25 set victories.

Wesleyan turned in a solid .361 team hitting percentage in the first set and followed it up with an even more impressive .433 in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Eagles looked poised to force a fourth set after forging a 22-17 lead in the third. A trio of kills by senior Meredith Smith coupled with two unforced errors by UMW, however, knotted the score at 23-23. The set featured two more ties before back-to-back kills by Smith and junior Taylor Johnson ended the set and match.

Smith finished with a game-high 12 kills, while fellow senior Anna Hart added 11 kills and 10 digs. Libero Shana Ayers anchored the defense with 15 digs.

Now winners of three straight, Wesleyan (4-5) returns to action at home on Tuesday night at 7:00pm when Methodist visits Everett Gym.
