Ayers, Bishops Pick Up Three Volleyball Victories

Danville, Va. - Senior libero Shana Ayers averaged 26 digs per match to help lead her Battling Bishop volleyball squad to three victories over the weekend. Wesleyan began with a 3-0 sweep of Guilford on Friday before turning in 3-0 and 3-1 USA South wins over Averett and Peace on Saturday, respectively. NCWC climbs above .500 for the first time this season at 7-6 and is now 2-0 in league play.

Versus Guilford, set scores were 25-14, 25-15 and 25-12. The Bishops simply dominated with 42 kills to the Quakers' 17, holding Guilford to a negative team hitting percentage in the match.  Anna Hart paved the way with nine kills, while Taylor Johnson added eight. Kristi Lucas dished out 32 assists on the night.

Wesleyan proceeded to open up conference play with a 3-0 sweep of host Averett on Saturday (25-23, 25-20, 25-18). Johnson turned in game-high 16 kills and Meredith Smith added 10 of her own.  Ayers finished with 26 digs defensively.

Finally, against Peace, the Bishops were 3-1 winners (25-15, 25-20, 19-25, 25-11). Playing in her first match against her former team, Johnson managed 12 kills and four blocks, while Smith turned in a game-high 13 kills to go along with 23 digs. Ayers had a weekend-best 34 digs in the match, and Lucas recorded 44 assists.

The Bishops and Pacers will face off again on Tuesday night when Peace visits Everett Gymnasium for a 7:00pm non-conference match.
