NCWC Volleyball Continues to Roll with Trio of Wins

Harrisonburg, Va. - The Battling Bishop volleyball squad continued its impressive play of late with a trio of wins this weekend. Wesleyan picked up a 3-1 win at Randolph on Friday night before earning a pair of thrilling 3-2 victories on Saturday over Bridgewater and Eastern Mennonite. The victories run NCWC's current win streak to seven matches.

Versus Randolph, set scores were 25-13, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-16. Senior Meredith Smith paced Wesleyan with 16 kills, while Taylor Johnson and Anna Hart added 14 and 13, respectively. Hart completed the double-double with 11 digs.  As a team, the Bishops turned in a solid .318 hitting percentage on the night, due in part to Kristi Lucas' 47 assists.

Against Bridgewater on Saturday, the Bishops took the first and fourth sets in exciting fashion with 31-29 and 28-26 wins to force a fifth and deciding set.  In the fifth, the Bishops erased a 5-1 deficit with a 14-1 run, which included 11 straight points behind the serving of senior Erin Augspurger

Johnson finished with a game-high 15 kills, while Shana Ayers chipped in 26 digs and four service aces.

NCWC's final match again went five sets (25-12, 15-25, 26-28, 25-21, 15-10). Hart led the way with 13 kills, 16 digs and four blocks.

Now 11-6 overall, the Bishops return to USA South play on Wednesday night when they travel to Methodist University for a 7:00pm match-up with the Monarchs. Wesleyan will be attempting to avenge a heartbreaking 3-2 non-conference loss to MU just two weeks ago at home.
