NCWC Volleyball Goes 3-1 on Weekend Road Trip

Maryville, Tenn. - North Carolina Wesleyan's volleyball team went 3-1 on its weekend road trip, picking up victories over Greensboro, Southern Virginia and LaGrange. The Bishops' lone defeat came at the hands of Maryville College on Sunday, which marks NCWC's first loss in USA South play this season. Wesleyan is now 18-8 overall, 7-1 in league action.

The Bishops picked up a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday at Greensboro, knocking off both the Pride and SVU by 3-1 scores.  Junior Taylor Johnson paved the way versus Greensboro with 13 kills, while seniors Anna Hart and Meredith Smith dominated the Knights with 22 and 18 kills, respectively.

It was on to Maryville on Sunday where the Scots found themselves down a set after the Bishops opened play with a 25-16 win. MVC then turned to Kara Strickland, who tallied a match-high 21 kills to help her squad earn 25-17, 25-13 and 25-11 wins in the next three sets. Smith and Hart again paced Wesleyan with combined 24 kills. Shana Ayers added 23 digs and Kristi Lucas 31 assists.

Wesleyan wrapped up play with a league sweep of LaGrange in the nightcap. Hart continued her impressive play with a team-high 14 kills, while sophomore Lauren Wright added eight.

The Bishops return to action at home on Wednesday evening when they host Christopher Newport University at 7:00pm.
