Bishops Earn Pair of Sweeps, Prepare for Tourney

Demorest, Ga. - Senior Meredith Smith totaled 36 kills over two matches on Saturday afternoon, leading her Battling Bishop volleyball squad to a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Piedmont and Ferrum in USA South play. The two victories ups Wesleyan's season record to 20-9 overall, securing the program's sixth straight 20-win season.

Versus host Piedmont, set scores were 28-26, 25-22 and 25-22. Smith tallied 20 kills and 11 digs, while Kristi Lucas chipped in 35 assists and 19 digs. Libero Shana Ayers racked up 28 digs to lead the defensive effort.

Against Ferrum, set scores were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-9. Smith again paced the Bishops with 16 kills and 12 digs with Lucas dishing out 37 assists. Ayers added 16 digs. 

Wesleyan has now completed its 2012 regular season slate, and with a 9-2 league mark, has secured the 3rd-seed in next weekend's USA South Conference Tournament in Martinsville, Va. The Bishops will take on 6th-seeded William Peace University in the first round at 5:00pm Friday.
