Bishops Cruise to 3-0 League Sweep of Mary Baldwin

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Junior Kayla White tallied 16 assists, 10 digs and seven kills on Wednesday afternoon to lead her Battling Bishop volleyball squad to a 3-0 sweep of Mary Baldwin in Everett Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-16.

The first set was evenly played and found Wesleyan clinging to a slim 22-21 lead late. The Bishops, however, were able to reel off the final three points behind a pair of MBC attack errors that sandwiched a service ace by White.

It was all Baldwin early in the second set as the Squirrels raced out to a quick 6-1 advantage. Wesleyan rebounded to trail just 14-13 midway through, and from there, sophomore Evie Hunter took over by converting 12 straight service points. Hunter, in fact, finished with four service aces on the day.

Baldwin notched the first point of set three, but it would be the only time NCWC trailed as back-to-back aces by Hunter gave Wesleyan an early lead that the Bishops would not relinquish.

Freshman Emily McLain paced NCWC with a team-high eight kills. As a team, the Bishops racked up 31 kills against nine errors on the day.

Wesleyan (5-15, 4-7 USA South) continues league play this weekend with matches versus Maryville and Covenant in Raleigh.
