Roanoke, Va. - Junior Tori Stewart racked up a career-high 19 kills and added 16 digs, but it would not be enough as her Bishops dropped a tightly-contested 3-2 decision at Roanoke. Set scores were 30-28, 25-20, 16-25, 24-26 and 15-8.

The opening set saw the Maroons fight off five set points by the Bishops to steal a 30-28 win and go up 1-0 in the match. After dropping the second set, Wesleyan battled back from a 2-0 deficit to win the third with relative ease. The Bishops, in fact, turned in their most impressive offensive performance of the young season by far, tallying 17 kills against two errors for a .441 hitting percentage.

In the fourth, Wesleyan returned the favor from the opener, surviving a pair of set points and eventually taking the 26-24 win in extras to force a fifth and deciding set. Unfortunately, a 5-0 run by Roanoke prior to the switch was too much for the Bishops to overcome in the shortened set.

In addition to Stewart's performance, junior Christina Huber turned in 37 digs and sophomore Samantha Morton managed double-digit kills with ten. Also turning in a solid performance was junior Evie Hunter with nine kills and 20 digs, as well as freshman Taylor Smith with six blocks.

The Bishops (0-2) continue play on Wednesday when they travel to Mary Washington for a 7:00pm match-up with the Eagles.
