NCWC Sweeps Mustangs, Opens USA South Play at Peace

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's volleyball team posted a 3-0 road sweep of Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Friday evening, dominating the Mustangs for their third win of the season. NCWC then opened USA South play on Saturday at William Peace.

Versus MACU, set scores were 25-14, 25-16 and 25-18 as head coach Vicky Gentile was able to get all 15 of her players valuable court experience. Sophomore Samantha Morton and freshman Taylor Smith tallied five kills apiece, while freshman Carley Mackie dished out 11 assists. Junior Ayla Brewer also racked up a career-high five assists in the victory.

Wesleyan proceeded to open up USA South play at William Peace University on Saturday. The Bishops' opener saw them drop a tightly-contested 3-1 contest to Piedmont College. Set scores were 25-19, 29-31, 26-24 and 25-23. Morton again paced the Bishops with 11 kills, and Brewer added 38 assists. Junior Christina Huber anchored the defensive effort with 25 digs.

Host William Peace later posted a 3-0 sweep of NCWC by 25-19, 25-13 and 29-27 scores.

Now 3-6 overall, the Bishops continue USA South play on Tuesday night with their 2015 home opener versus Meredith College. Match time is slated for 7:00pm in Everett Gym.
