Rocky Mount, N.C. / Fayetteville, N.C. - The Battling Bishop volleyball team took two of three matches over the weekend, sweeping John Wesley University on Friday night in Everett Gym before splitting a pair of USA South tilts on Saturday.

Wesleyan hosted Dig Pink Night on Friday evening versus the Lions, delivering a 3-0 sweep for the home crowd. The Bishops got off to a slow start, falling behind 16-9 in the first set. Behind the play of sophomore Autumn Spence, the Bishops fought off two set points to tie the score at 24-24 and eventually steal the 30-28 win. They did not look back from there, recording 25-20 wins in both the second and third sets.

Spence led the Bishops with 15 kills, while setters Haileigh Riesenbeck and Kelly Ammons combined for 42 assists. Freshman Callie Cline chipped in nine kills, and she joined libero Hannah Huls with 18 digs apiece to pace the defensive effort.

The Bishops opened play on Saturday with key USA South match versus Greensboro. The Pride took the opening set by a 26-24 score and proceeded to fight off a pair of set points in the second to earn another 26-24 win. Wesleyan battled back for a 25-21 win in the third to extend the match. Tied 22-22 in the fourth, the Pride got three straight kills to seal the set and match, 25-22.

Senior Samantha Morton led all players with 20 kills, while Cline joined her in double-figures with 12. Huls anchored with defense with 24 digs, and as a team, the Bishops racked up nine total blocks (3 solo, 12 assists) led by senior Emily McLain's six.

NCWC wrapped up play with a sweep of MBU. Set scores were 25-7, 25-9, 25-17. Cline and fellow freshman Augusta Preston tallied seven kills apiece, with Riesenbeck dishing out 17 assists.

The Bishops wrap up their 2017 home slate on Tuesday with Senior Night in Everett Gym. Wesleyan will host league rival Methodist University at 7:00pm.
