Volleyball loses 5-set Heartbreaker to Pfeiffer

 Misenheimer, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team fell short in a five set thriller to conference foe Pfeiffer University (N.C.) on the road Friday. 

Pfeiffer edged the Bishops in the first set 25-23 before the ladies rallied back to win the next two sets 25-15 and 25-21. Pfeiffer would then win the fourth 25-20 to force a deciding set. The Falcons then got off to a quick 6-1 start and held off a Bishop rally for a 15-11 win. 

Senior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck tallied a double double of 10 kills and 21 assists in the defeat along with 7 digs, two aces and an assisted block. Junior outside hitter Callie Cline would also lead the Bishops with a double double of 13 kills and 11 digs and 4 assists.

Sophomore right side Sydney Barnwell also added 4 blocks, 8 digs, 2 assists and 5 kills while junior hitter Augusta Preston registered an impressive 11 kills and 3 digs on a .346 attack percentage. 

Senior setter Kelly Ammons also assisted on 13 balls with 4 digs while senior middle Hannah Thrasher added 8 kills with just one error while hitting .467. Thrasher also had 2 solo blocks and 3 digs.

The Lady Bishops hit .407 in the second set as they rolled to that game win while also hitting .333 on 13 kills in the third game win. Wesleyan will now have a week off before heading to the Roanoke, VA Classic next weekend for four matches beginning Friday at Noon.
