Bishop Volleyball Sweeps Ferrum for First Win

SALEM, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team swept through former rival Ferrum College (Va.) 3-0 to pick up their first win of the season on Friday evening in their second match of the Roanoke Maroon Classic.

Wesleyan blew through the sets 25-18, 25-13, and 25-17 punctuated by a 19-kill game three win where they hit .457. Wesleyan totaled 43 kills in the win while holding Ferrum (1-4) to just 25 with the Bishops hitting .250 overall for the match.

Sophomore right side Sydney Barnwell led the team with 12 kills while hitting .292 with 3 digs and two blocks. Senior middle Hannah Thrasher then hit a team-best .667 on 9 kills and only one error.

Senior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck played well again tallying a team-best 24 assists with 5 kills, 6 digs, and a season-high 4 aces. Junior OH Callie Cline also added 5 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs and 2 blocks in the win while fellow junior hitter Augusta Preston recorded six kills as well. Junior libero Samantha Butensky added 19 digs and an ace with senior setter Kelly Ammons adding 10 assists, 3 kills, an ace and two digs.

Wesleyan, now 1-2 will next finish the Roanoke Classic with two matches tomorrow. They first play at 9 AM vs. Bridgewater College (Va.) and at 1:00 PM vs. Randolph (Va.).
