Volleyball Falls in Allegheny Tri-Meet; Thrasher Named to All-Tourney Team

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team dropped both of their tri-meet matches up in Meadville, PA on Saturday falling in 3 sets to host Allegheny College and to Fredonia (NY). However, senior middle Hannah Thrasher was named to the Allegheny Invitational All-Tournament team for her stellar play over the weekend.

ALLEGHENY 3, NCWC 0

Wesleyan lost a heartbreaking first set to the Gators 25-23 as the Bishops hit .282 with 16 kills. AC then rolled to a game two win 25-14 holding Wesleyan to just 6 kills. Allegheny (3-6) then won the match 25-18 in the third set hitting .273 with 16 kills while Wesleyan had 11 kills.

Sophomore right side Sydney Barnwell led the Bishops with 8 kills while hitting .200 with 3 digs, a block and an assist. Sophomore middle Lauren Weaver then had 7 kills with 4 blocks and 2 and an assist while hitting .278.

Junior outside Callie Cline also had a nice game leading with 15 digs  while adding 3 kills and 2 blocks while senior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck also recorded 15 assists with 7 digs. Outside hitters Augusta Preston, Aubrey Nicholson and middle Hannah Thrasher also each had 4 kills apiece.

FREDONIA 3, NCWC 0

Wesleyan then faced off with Fredonia University out of NY later Saturday and kept pace with the Blue Devils after the tough first game, but could not pull out any set wins.

Fredonia, 6-6, came out on fire in the first set and hit .429 with 14 kills to pull off a 25-12 win. Fredonia then held off the Lady Bishops by identical scores of 25-21 over the final sets to pick up the win dropping the Bishops to 3-6.

Barnwell led the Bishops again in kills with nine while hitting .278 with three digs an ace, while Preston totaled 4 kills with a block. Junior libero Sam Butensky recorded 13 digs to elad the team while Weaver had 3 blocks and two kills. The senior setting duo of Kelly Ammons and Riesenbeck also combined for 22 assists and 12 digs.

Wesleyan will next be in action when they head to Hollins University in Roanoke, VA next Friday at 6 PM.
