ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team suffered a tough home loss on Thursday's Dig for a Cure Pink Night as Wesleyan fell in four sets to non-conference opponent Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte (N.C.).

JWU got out to a big lead in the first set leading 23-17 before Wesleyan went on a 6-1 run. However, the Wildcats would close it out 25-23 as each team recorded 12 kills.

Wesleyan would then come back to take the second set 25-18 hitting .274 with 13 kills. The Bishops would then lead early in the third set before JWU rallied again to steal the set 25-20 on 15 kills and just one error as they hit .500 while Wesleyan was still able to put down 14 kills.

The Wildcats would then close out the match 25-19 in an odd fourth set as they only managed 7 kills with one error hitting .353 whereas the Bishops recorded 17 kills, but made 14 errors leading to the defeat.

Wesleyan falls to 6-11 with the loss while JWU improved to 12-4.

Sophomore right side Sydney Barnwell led the Bishops with 15 kills hitting .324 along with 4 digs, one block, and one assist while sophomore middle hitter Lauren Weaver hit a season-high .318 on 12 kills. Fellow middle, senior Hannah Thrasher, also added 8 kills with 3 aces and 3 digs.

Senior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck also led the way with 28 assists along with 2 kills, 2 digs, and an ace while junior libero Sam Butensky had a team-high 19 digs and two aces. Setter Kelly Ammons also had a good night tallying 21 assists with 2 aces and 5 digs.

The Lady Bishops are back in action on Saturday when they remain home to host Salem (NC) and Greensboro in a conference tri-match beginning at Noon.
