Meredith Swings Past Lady Bishops

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team put up a valiant effort, but fell in three sets against Meredith College, one of the best teams in the USA South, on Tuesday night.

Meredith edged the Bishops in a competitive first set 25-22 as each team totaled 11 kills in the set with the Bishops even leading 16-13 midway through the set.

Meredith would then show their power in the second set as they attacked their way to a dominating 25-14 win on 17 kills before holding off a Bishop rally in the third set to take it 25-21 and the match win. 

Meredith improves to 16-7 overall and 10-2 in the conference while the Lady Bishops fall to 9-17 and 4-8 in the USA South East Division.

Wesleyan was led by sophomore middle Lauren Weaver's impressive game as she posted team-highs in kills with 9 and blocks with 4 while also hitting .261 and 2 digs. Fellow middle, senior Hannah Thrasher also played well recording 3 kills with no errors and hitting .500 along with a team-best 4 aces and 5 digs.

Junior OH Callie Cline also registered a team-high of 12 digs to go along with her 5 kills, 2 assists, and a block while the senior setting duo of Kelly Ammons and Haileigh Riesenbeck also combined for 21 assists, 8 digs, and 2 kills. 

The Lady Bishops will next return to action on Friday when they battle Piedmont and Randolph College in a non-conference tri-match in Winston-Salem beginning at 3 PM.
