Volleyball Drops Tri-Match at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team unfortunately dropped both ends of their conference tri-match at Greensboro College on Saturday, falling in 4 sets to the Pride and 3-0 to Salem College.

GC 3, NCWC 1

Greensboro took the first two sets from the Bishops in dominating fashion winning 25-13 and 25-11 as the Pride totaled 26 kills to the Bishops' 11 kills. Wesleyan would then rally from behind in the third set to steal it 25-23 from the Pride and force a 4th set. Wesleyan had 13 kills in the third set. However, GC would get out to a huge 18-9 lead before the Bishops rallied to make it 23-21 GC, but the Pride would close it out for the win improving to 15-14 and 7-6 in the conference.

Wesleyan was led by senior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck's double-double of 21 assists and 12 digs along with 2 kills while junior libero Sam Butensky recorded a team-best 22 digs.

Wesleyan's middle-blocking duo of Hannah Thrasher and Lauren Weaver also played well combining for 11 kills and 4 blocks while sophomore RS Sydney Barnwell also added 9 kills, an ace, and 13 digs. Junior OH Callie Cline also tallied 15 digs and 6 kills with a block in the loss while freshman Aubrey Nicholson registered 11 digs and 3 kills as well.

SC 3, NCWC 0

In the Bishops' 2nd match of the day, they would battle hard even leading 23-22, but drop a tight opening set 25-23 on 11 kills hitting .119. Salem then rolled past the Bishops 25-14 in the second set on 17 kills hitting .500 before also taking the third set 25-18 as well.

Salem improves to 13-10 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

Weaver led the Bishops with 9 kills and only one error while hitting .388 with 3 digs and a block while sophomore middle Devyn Kalinowski had 6 kills, 2 digs, and 2 blocks. Juniors Cline and RS Augusta Preston also had 3 kills apiece with Cline adding 12 digs, a block, and an assist and Thrasher adding a team-best 3 blocks. Butensky also added a team-high 21 digs and 2 aces as the libero along with 2 assists while Riesenbeck totaled 11 assists, 5 digs, and an ace in the loss. 

The Lady Bishops fall to 10-20 overall and 4-10 in the conference with the losses and needs to win their final two conference game next weekend at Pfeiffer to have a chance to qualify for the conference tournament. Wesleyan will first go on the road to face Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night at 7 PM.
