The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball program is doing an alumni spotlight series. First up is 2011 graduate Kelly Dougherty (George).

Dougherty played as a Libero at Wesleyan from 2007-2010 and led the Bishops during her freshman year with 501 digs, the 3rd-highest total at the time in school history. She then topped that in 2009 with 618 digs and blew past it again during her senior year in 2010 with 738 digs, becoming the all-time single season leader in digs in school history. She was then named MVP of her team in 2010 for her efforts in leading the team to a 24-11 record as well.

Dougherty is also the record holder in career digs at NCWC with 2,292, more than 350 in front of the next closest.

Kelly was a two-time all-conference award winner as she was named to the Honorable Mention team in 2009 and then named to the all-conference 2nd team in 2010. She was also a part of four 20-win teams at Wesleyan during her playing years helping lead the team to a combined record of 93-46.

George-Dougherty was also named as the Decade Athlete of the Week for the USA South Conference back in October (Week 7).

Prior to coming to Wesleyan, Kelly attended Magruder High School graduating in 2007 where she lettered in volleyball and holds the career record for digs. Dougherty is a native of Derwood, MD.

Kelly is now married to NCWC men's basketball alum Matt Dougherty and they have two kids together, Mitchell (4) and Madison (8 months). They currently reside on Cannon AFB in Clovis, New Mexico.

Social Media Spotlight- Kelly Dougherty (George)

What was your major at NCWC?

-Double major in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems

What are you up to now?

-Director of Resource Services at Life 103.1 (radio station in RM) I produce commercials for the station, lots of internal technical operations, etc

What is something you will always remember/cherish about Bishop Volleyball?

-My sister and I were able to play one season of college volleyball together and it's always been my favorite season!! I don't think many people have an opportunity like that and it is something I will always cherish! After she graduated from NCWC she also coached and it was great to have that support!

What would you consider your greatest accomplishment since graduating from NCWC?

(It may sound cheesy) My family! I'm a huge family oriented person and no promotion or accomplishment would ever come close to the feeling I get at home with my husband and kids! Everything I do is for them.

Which opponent did you enjoy playing against throughout your career and Why?

-Christopher Newport for sure. They were always on a different level from everyone else in the conference.  I have a very competitive spirit and love playing the best opponent out there. Especially playing a defensive position, stopping their best hitters from getting kills they normally would was always a great feeling!
