Volleyball Routs Johnson & Wales 3-0

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 thrashing of non-conference foe Johnson & Wales University at home on Thursday night from Everett Gym.

After getting down early, the Bishops rallied going on a 8-0 run to take a 10-5 lead in the first set before racking up 12 kills en route to a 25-14 set one win. A back and forth second set then saw Wesleyan rally for the win after being tied at 21 to put up 15 kills in the set. The Bishops then stomped the Wildcats (6-3) in the third set getting off to a great start and never looking back including going on a 10-2 run to end it 25-9 on 12 kills hitting .455.

Senior outside hitter Caitlin Leggett led the Bishop attack with 11 kills hitting .304 while senior middle Lauren Weaver led the team with a .562 hitting percentage along with 10 kills and only one error. Weaver also had two big blocks for the Bishops.

Also recording double-digit kills was senior middle Sydney Barnwell with 10 kills along with 4 service aces while she hit .412. Sophomore setter Sloan Martin then registered 37 assists while libero Kira Kristjanson posted 12 digs and two aces.

Senior right side Michaela Seawell also had 6 kills and 8 digs with 2 blocks while junior outside hitter Aubrey Nicholson had 11 digs, 2 kills, and an ace.

Wesleyan continues their hot start to the season improving to 7-3 for their best start since 2011.

The Bishops will next head to Virginia to face Ferrum College on Saturday and battle their former conference rivals in a 2 PM match.
