Volleyball Sweeps Ferrum, Improves its best start in 10 years

FERRUM, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win over non-conference foe Ferrum College on the road Saturday in Virginia. The win improves the Lady Bishops to 8-3 on the season extending the team's best start to a season in over 10 years.

The Bishops dominated a first set with 16 kills and only 3 errors hitting .433 to win it 25-16 over the Lady Panthers. A tight second set then saw the Bishops pull it out 25-22 with kills from senior OH Michaela Seawell on 3 of the final 4 points of the set to close out the Panthers. The Bishops totaled 18 kills just in the second set alone!

Wesleyan then jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the third set before going on to win that one 25-19 with kills from senior OH Bijou Patel, senior middle Sydney Barnwell, and sophomore setter Sloan Martin to finish off Ferrum (3-8) with 8 kills in the set and only one error. Wesleyan finished the match with 42 kills, only 9 attack errors, 4 aces, and 10 total blocks while hitting .337. Ferrum only hit .115.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Weaver led the Bishops with 10 kills on only one error while hitting .429 with 3 blocks. Martin then added 34 assists, 2 aces, 3 kills, and 11 digs as the setter. 

Junior libero Kira Kristjanson also added 8 digs and 4 assists while junior OH Aubrey Nicholson also had 8 digs, 1 ace, and a kill. Senior DS Mary Catherine Davis registered 8 digs as well while Seawell had 7 kills, just one error with 5 digs and 4 assisted blocks on the day as well. 

Barnwell also recorded 7 kills in the middle with 3 blocks and an ace hitting .312 while Patel and Right Side hitter Caitlin Leggett each logged 7 kills apiece as well. Leggett also hit .250 with 3 digs and an assist while Patel hit .267.

The 8-3 Bishops will return to action on Wednesday at 7 PM at home when they open conference play vs. William Peace.
