Volleyball's Win Streak Ends in loss to Peace

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 4-set match 3-1 to conference rival William Peace University at home on Wednesday night.

Peace got out to a good start and building a big lead in the first set while taking advantage of some Bishop errors en route to a 25-15 set win. The Pacers then used 9 kills in set two even as the Bishops scored 11 to pull away late going on a 12-2 run to take set two 25-18.

Wesleyan then came out strong in the third set before going on a 7-0 run to turn a 11-8 deficit into a 15-11 lead. Peace would then rally to tie it up before the teams traded points back and forth with the match becoming tied at 24 apiece on a Peace service error. Wesleyan Then used a block from middle blocker Lauren Weaver and kills from outside hitter Bijou Patel and Weaver to grab the third set 27-25.

Peace, however, ran away with the fourth set to clinch the match 25-14. Patel led the Bishops with 10 kills hitting .161 with nine digs while Weaver tallied 8 kills and 4 solo blocks.

Setter Sloan Martin led the way with 36 assists and 11 digs for a double-double along with 2 kills and a block while senior OH Michaela Seawell also added 6 kills and 12 digs and a block. Junior libero Kira Kristjanson then had a team-best 19 digs while junior OH/DS Aubrey Nicholson also added 14 digs. Senior right side Caitlin Leggett added 8 kills as well.

The Bishops fall to 8-4 with the loss and 0-1 in the East Division while Peace improves to 6-7 and 1-0.

The Lady Bishops return to action on Saturday when they host Salem and Greensboro in a conference tri-meet at Noon.
