Bishop Volleyball Splits at Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team went 1-1 in conference play on Saturday at Mary Baldwin University. The Bishops fell to the Knights of Southern Virginia University 0-3, losing 15-25, 22-25, and 22-25 before defeating MBU 3-0 later Saturday.

Senior middle hitter Sydney Barnwell led the offense with 10 kills, recording 1 ace, 1 solo block and 1 block assist. Senior middle hitter Lauren Weaver tallied 6 kills in the middle with only 1 error, also earning 1 block assist. 

Senior outside hitter Michaela Seawell led the defense with 5 digs, followed by Junior libero Kira Kristjanson with 4 digs. Seawell also earned 3 kills and 1 block assist. 

Sophomore setter Sloan Martin totaled 20 assists for the match, adding 2 digs and 2 aces. Despite their efforts on offense, the Bishops were outhit .264 to .096. The Knights' 14 service aces also proved fatal, allowing the sweep. 

NCWC 3, MARY BALDWIN 0

The Bishops defeated the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University 3-0 Saturday afternoon, winning 26-24, 28-26, and 25-19. 

Weaver led the offense with 13 kills and only 2 errors on 18 attempts, hitting a personal best of .611. Weaver also tallied 4 block assists and 1 dig.

Senior outside hitter Caitlin Leggett followed with 9 kills, a solo block and two digs. Barnwell added 1 solo block and 1 block assist to the defensive effort, also earning 3 aces, 3 kills, and 1 assist offensively. 

Junior outside hitter Aubrey Nicholson led the defensive effort, totaling 16 digs with 3 aces and 3 kills. Kira Kristjanson added 10 digs, one assist and one ace. Sophomore setter Sloan Martin earned 8 digs and two block assists defensively, contributing 27 assists to the Bishop offense. 

The Bishops ended the weekend 4-2 in conference play and 13-5 overall. The Volleyball Team will next travel to Pfeiffer University on Tuesday night for another conference matchup.
