Bishop Volleyball Falls in 4 at Pfeiffer

Misenheimer, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in four tough sets on the road at Pfeiffer University on Tuesday evening.

Wesleyan outlasted the Falcons 32-30 in a marathon first set before falling flat in the second to drop it 25-6. Pfeiffer then edged out the Bishops 25-21 in the third and 25-22 in the fourth to take the match. 

The Bishops totaled 19 kills in the opening set while hitting .224, but Pfeiffer put down 20 kills and hit .203. Wesleyan rallied from 29-28 down to take 4 of the final 5 points and the first set.

Pfeiffer then got off to a fast start in set two and dominated throughout. Wesleyan then got to within one at 21-22 in the 3rd set before PU ran off the final three points. PU then led thrroughout set four as Wesleyan would again get within one multiple times, but could not come extend the match to a fifth set.

Senior OH Michaela Seawell led the Bishops with a season-high 18 kills and only 4 errors as she hit .333 on the game. She also added 12 digs, 2 blocks, and 2 aces as well.

Senior middle hitter Lauren Weaver also had a good game tallying 10 kills with just three errors and hitting .259 with 4 digs and 3 blocks while fellow middle Sydney Barnwell added 7 kills, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 2 digs, and an ace.

Sophomore setter Sloan Martin finished with a doub le-double of 35 assists and 19 digs along with 3 kills. Senior OH Caitlin Leggett also added 5 kills, 5 digs, and 2 blocks.

Wesleyan falls to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference with the loss while Pfeiffer also improves to 13-5 and 4-3 in the East. the Bishops will return to action on Friday when they travel to nearby Raleigh to face Meredith and Averett in a 2 PM tri-match.
