Volleyball Drops Close Battle at Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road at Wiiliam Peace University Wednesday evening.

Peace triumphed in a tight first set 25-20 behind 16 kills while Wesleyan still managed to put down 13 kills hitting .156

The second set was a back-and-forth affair with Wesleyan leading by three multiple times and never relinquishing the lead until WPU snatched it at 25 all to take the final two points. WPU totaled 15 kills in the set while the Bishops topped that with 16 and hit .179 but fell just short.

The third set saw the Pacers jump out to a big 8-1 lead before going on to take it 25-16 as the Bishop moral dropped after falling in the heartbreaking second set. Wesleyan still managed to hit .250 in the third set with 12 kills.

Leading the Bishops was senior outside Michaela Seawell with 13 kills and a .179 hitting % along with 10 digs and 2 blocks as she recorded a double-double. Fellow outside hitter, junior Aubrey Nicholson also played well tallying 9 kills and 14 digs.

Senior middle Sydney Barnwell also had a good night totaling 8 kills, 7 digs, 2 assists, and 2 blocks as she hit a team-best .316. Fellow middle, senior Lauren Weaver posted 5 kills and 2 blocks as well while sophomore setter Sloan Martin added 35 assists, 9 digs, and a block.

Senior right side Caitlin Leggett registered 6 kills and 3 digs as well while junior libero Kira Kristjanson contributed 21 digs.

Wesleyan falls to 13-9 overall and 4-6 in the conference while WPU improves to 13-9 and 8-1 in the conference, tied for first place.

The Lady Bishops next hit the road Saturday for a tri-match at Greensboro College at 12 and 2.
