Bishop Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Meet at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan Volleyball team defeated Greensboro College and Salem College Saturday in Greensboro, earning two more conference wins.

The Bishops edged the Pride of Greensboro College 3-1, losing the first set 13-25 before winning the following three 25-22, 25-23, and 26-24. 

Senior middle hitter Sydney Barnwell led the offense with 13 kills and only 5 errors on 32 attacks, a .250 for the match. 

Fellow senior middle Lauren Weaver earned 8 kills in the middle, while senior outside hitter Michaela Seawell earned 8 kills and one ace. Senior OH Caitlin Leggett tallied 8 kills on the outside and sophomore setter Sloan Martin rounded out the offense with 32 assists and one ace. 

The Bishop defense showcased their block on the defensive effort. Weaver earned 4 solo blocks and one block assist with 4 digs in the middle. Barnwell added one solo block and 3 block assists with 6 digs. Seawell and sophomore Desiree Walker each added 2 block assists at the net, while Seawell earned a solo block as well. 

Behind-the-block play was led by junior libero Kira Kristjanson with 20 digs, followed by Seawell with 18 digs. Senior defensive specialist Mary Catherine Davis and Martin earned a matching 11 digs each. 

Junior defensive specialist Andrea Vendrame earned a season-best 13 digs and recorded a 7-point service run. Vendrame's only ace tipped the Bishops to match point at 25-24, followed by a net call on the Pride to clinch the victory. 

NCWC 3, SALEM 1

The Bishops defeated the Spirits of Salem College 3-1, winning 25-21, 25-7, 23-25, and 25-12. 

The Bishop offense dominated at the net, out-hitting the Spirits .238 to .043. Seawell led the effort with 13 kills and 2 errors on 34 attacks, hitting a .324. Barnwell followed with a .320, recording 9 kills. 

Outside hitter Aubrey Nicholson and middle hitter Weaver added a matching 7 kills each. Martin put up 30 assist as the setter, adding one ace and 6 digs in the back row. 

Kristjanson led the defense, adding 22 digs. Outside hitters Nicholson and Seawell added 13 digs and 12 digs respectively, followed by Barnwell with 9 digs. 

The blocking scheme was on again for the Bishops, led by Barnwell with 4 block assists and a season-best 5 solo blocks. Weaver earned one solo block and 3 block assists as the other middle hitter. Outside hitters Leggett and Seawell added 2 block assists each, while Martin and Nicholson added one block assist each. 

The Bishops increase their overall record to 15-9 and 6-6 in conference play. The Bishop Volleyball Team returns to Everett Gymnasium on Wednesday to face ODAC opponent Virginia Wesleyan at 7 PM.
