NCWC Volleyball Edges Past Methodist in Four

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball powered their way to a big conference win on Thursday night defeating rival Methodist 3-1 on the road.

The win moves Wesleyan to 7-6 in the East Division and in a tie for 5th place. Wesleyan outlasted the Monarchs 27-25 in the first set on an impressive 18 kills hitting .385 before MU came back to take the second set 25-22 behind 16 kills.

The Bishops then played a perfect attacking third set registering 14 kills with 0 errors to hit .424 and take the set 25-19. Wesleyan then raced out to a 13-7 lead in the 4th set and cruised through 25-20 adding 15 more kills.

Wesleyan totaled 58 kills on the night hitting .258 as a team led by 17 from senior outside hitter Michaela Seawell as she hit .294 making only 2 errors all night. She also added 6 digs and 2 blocks. Also having a good night was junior outside hitter Aubrey Nicholson tallying a season-high of 12 kills and 14 digs for a double-double while hitting .310 with 3 aces, two blocks, and 2 assists.

Senior middle Lauren Weaver also stepped up grabbing 10 kills with just two errors to hit .250 with 4 digs and 2 blocks while sophomore setter Sloan Martin posted 45 assists, 10 digs, six kills, 2 aces and a block in her big night. Fellow senior middle Sydney Barnwell also recorded 7 kills with a season- high 6 blocks and 2 aces.

Defensively, junior libero Kira Kristjanson led the way with 21 digs, 3 assists, an ace and a kill while senior DS Mary Catherine Davis also added 11 digs, 3 assists, and a kill.

Wesleyan improves to 16-10 overall as they continue to increase their most wins in a season in over ten years. Methodist drops to 9-15 and 2-11 in the conference.

The Bishops will now return home to host Southern Virginia, Methodist, and Mary Baldwin in a quad-match beginning at 10 AM on Saturday.
