Volleyball Thrashes Pfeiffer in Home Finale

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team rolled their way to a thrashing of Pfeiffer University 3-0 Tuesday night in their home finale from Everett Gymnasium.

The win improves the Bishops to 18-11 overall and into 5th place at 9-7 in the conference, their best season and most wins since 2012. Pfeiffer falls to 18-10 and 8-8 in the Division.

Wesleyan got off to a strong start in the first set going on a 19-6 run after trailing 9-6 early to win the set 25-15 on 17 kills hitting .353. The Bishops then got out to an even better start in the second set running out to a 15-3 lead before Pfeiffer took a timeout. Wesleyan cruised from there taking it 25-12 on 13 kills and hitting .333. The third set was a bit closer until the Bishops pulled away late to win it 25-19 on 14 kills.

Leading the Lady Bishops was senior middle Lauren Weaver with 11 kills and 4 blocks while hitting .304. Junior outside hitter Aubrey Nicholson also played well tallying 10 kills on only two errors along with 12 digs, 2 aces, and a block as she hit .400 for a terrific night.

Senior middle hitter Sydney Barnwell also played well recording 9 kills on 16 attacks to hit .438 while also registering a block and an ace. Senior OH Michaela Seawell posted 5 kills, 4 digs, 3 aces, and a block as well while senior right side hitter Caitlin Leggett had 6 kills and a dig.

Defensively, Wesleyan was led by libero Kira Kristjanson with 12 digs and an assist while sophomore setter Sloan Martin tallied 37 assists, 11 digs, four aces, and 3 kills as she again posted another error-free night. 

Wesleyan will next close out their conference season with a tri-match at Averett on Saturday beginning at Noon followed by a battle with rival Meredith College at 2 PM.
