Lacrosse Opens Season Versus Captains

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's lacrosse squad opened its 2012 season Saturday, taking on USA South foe Christopher Newport at Scalf Field. The two teams battled rainy conditions throughout the match with the Captains coming out on top, 21-0.

CNU (2-1, 1-0 USA South) scored just 13 seconds into regulation when Grace Valentine netted the eventual game-winner on a Kelly Lane assist, and the Captains would go on to forge a 13-0 lead at the break. It was more of the same in the second half as CNU finished with a 28-4 shot advantage in the match.

Lane and Lauren King paced the Captains with three goals apiece, and Becca Geist added four assists. Wesleyan's Laine Hicks got off the Bishops' lone shot-on-goal, while keeper Casey Burd managed five saves in net.

Wesleyan (0-1) continues USA South play next weekend with a two-game road trip to LaGrange and Agnes Scott on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
