Wesleyan and Millsaps Face Off in Lacrosse Action

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Millsaps College forged a 12-1 lead at the half and went on to secure a 17-5 non-conference lacrosse victory over host North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field.

Playing a man-down, the Bishops fell behind 3-0 before freshman Julia Smith netted a pass from Chelsea Colucci to make the score 3-1 less than 10 minutes in. The Majors, however, went on to score nine unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes for a 12-1 halftime advantage.

Wesleyan scored three of the first five goals in the second half as Connor Wright, Ashley Marks and Krissy Brannon all tallied scores. It was too little too late, however, as the first half deficit proved too much for the Bishops to overcome.

The Majors (2-5) got six goals from Haleigh Williams, while Brannon paced the Bishops with a pair of scores. Millsaps held a 31-14 shot advantage and 12-10 edge in draw controls. The Bishops managed 21 ground balls to the Majors' 13 but commited 19 turnovers in the match.

NCWC keeper Casey Burd recorded nine saves on the day with Millsap goalies combining for six stops.

Wesleyan (0-4) returns to USA South play on Saturday when the Bishops host Shenandoah University. The match is slated for a 2:00pm start at Scalf Field.
