Atlanta, Ga. - The Battling Bishop women's lacrosse team wrapped up its Spring Break trip in Georgia on Thursday, falling at Berry College by a 23-4 score. The loss came on the heels of Wednesday's defeat at Oglethorpe University, despite a season-high seven goals. Goalie Sydney Smith racked up another 21 saves over the two matches and currently ranks second in the USA South with 57 stops on the season.

The trip began with non-league tilt at Oglethorpe on Wednesday. The match was a back-and-forth affair for most of the first half. A pair of scores by freshman Alexandra Cucinotta sandwiched teammate's Ashlee Johnson's first goal of the season at the 14:28 mark, making the the score 4-3 in favor of OU with just over 10 minutes remaining in the period. Unfortunately, the Stormy Petrels proceeded to reel off 10 unanswered points before the break to pull away.

OU went on to out-score NCWC 8-4 in a second half that featured three more Cucinotta tallies and the first for freshman Samantha Valeros. In addition to her season-high five goals, Cucinotta added seven draw controls. Deja Hartman chipped in four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Smith finished with 10 saves in the match.

Jill Czaplinski notched seven goals to lead the Petrels (1-4).

Thursday's match at Berry saw the Vikings race out to a 4-0 lead before goals by Cucinotta and Johnson cut the deficit in half. The Bishops would get no closer, however, as Berry notched 12 of the next 13 scores to put the match out of reach.

Cucinotta finished with three goals to raise her team-high season total to 13, while Smith added 11 stops in net. Cucinotta controlled another nine draws, with she and Valeros each recording a trio of ground balls.

Rose Blanchard paced Berry (4-1) with seven points.

Next up, Wesleyan (0-5) hosts Hiram College on Monday afternoon at Scalf Field. The match is slated for a 4:00pm start.
