Bishop Lax Falls to Marietta

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team fell 18-7 to non-conference foe Marietta College at Scalf Field Wednesday afternoon.

Marietta got out to a 5-2 lead after the first 10 minutes of play before Wesleyan went on a 3-2 run to trail just 7-5 with 11 minutes to play. Unfortunately, the Pioneers would end the half with 4 straight goals to take an 11-5 halftime lead.

The second half then saw Marietta hold the Bishops to just 2 goals and outscore Wesleyan 7-2 to go on for the 11-goal win. 

Junior midfielder Ali Cucinotta led the Bishops with 4 goals and 12 draw control wins while sophomore Madeline Graham added a goal and 2 assists, 2 ground balls and a draw win.

Sophomore Maddie O'Neill also scored a goal and added an assist and picked up four ground balls while freshman Malia Spencer also scored her first career goal and added 3 draw controls and recorded 3 ground balls. Freshman attacker Winter Hardison also added an assist.

Freshman Goalie Izabella Espoile made 10 saves on 28 shots on goal while sophomore defender Brescia Reynolds led Wesleyan with 4 caused turnovers. Junior defender Deja Hartman also recorded a season-high 4 ground balls as well.

Wesleyan falls to 1-6 on the season with the tough defeat while Marietta improves to 5-1.

The Lady Bishops return to action on Saturday with a 4:00 road game at conference rival Averett (Va.).
