ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan womens lacrosse team dropped their non-conference matchup 19-3 to Southern Virginia University at home on a rainy Friday afternoon.

SVU jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after the first 8 minutes of play before both teams went cold for the next ten minutes. Wesleyan would get on the board with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half as freshman attacker Blaire Harley scored off an assist from senior captain Ali Cucinotta. SVU would then add 2 more goals in the half to take a 9-1 halftime lead.

Wesleyan then fought back and won the first two draw controls of the second half leading to one goal as junior midfielder Maddie O'Neill led the Bishops with the first goal of the half off another Cucinotta assist. NCWC then had a chance to trim their deficit to 9-3 early in the half, but could not cash in on a goal. SVU then went on a massive run scoring the next ten goals before Wesleyan could get another putting the game away.

Wesleyan's third goal finally came with just over 3 minutes remaining as O'Neill again scored off a Cucinotta assist.

Cucinotta won three draw controls on the day while leading the team with 5 ground ball pickups. Defenders Aydriyan Upchurch and Deja Hartman also recorded multiple ground balls with Upchurch grabbing three and Hartman two while freshman goalie Devin Bautz made six saves on the afternoon.

The Bishops fall to 1-2 on the year with the loss while SVU improves to 2-0. Wesleyan will next remain home to continue their homestand by hosting CNU on Tuesday afternoon at 3 PM.
