Lacrosse Falls at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team fell 19-7 on the road at Averett University on Saturday evening. 

AU (3-4, 1-1 USA South) would get out to a strong 7-0 start over the first 15 minutes in this one before NCWC scored back-to-back goals from junior Madeline Graham and senior Ali Cucinotta to bring Wesleyan within five at 7-2 with 11:50 to play.

The Cougars would then add 3 more goals before Cucinotta assisted on Graham's second goal for the second time in the 7:25 minute mark. Averett would then take a 12-3 lead into halftime.

The Lady Bishops then opened the second half on a goal from Cucinotta off an assist from Graham to get within eight before AU added four more goals over the next 8 minutes to go up 16-4.

Wesleyan added a goal from Cucinotta and two from Graham over the rest of the game. The duo each totaled 5 points on the day with Cucinotta tallying 3 goals, 2 assists, 3 ground ball pickups, and 6 draw control wins. Graham then finished with 4 goals, one assist, one GB and one draw win.

Senior defender Samantha Valeros also played well recording 3 GB pickups and a caused turnover while freshman attacker Blaire Harley also had an assist and two draw wins.

Brionna Beamon played 30 minutes in goal making 5 saves on 12 shots while senior Alissa Avery also played 30 minutes in goal making 3 saves on 10 shots.

Wesleyan falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference with the loss and will next be in action on Monday night on the road at Methodist at 6 PM.
