Lacrosse Opens Season with Loss

ASHLAND, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team fell 20-1 in their season opener on Wednesday evening on the road at Randolph-Macon College.

Macon scored seven goals in the first quarter before going on a 7-minute drought into the second quarter as the Bishops would hold them scoreless. However, RMC would then pick back up the pace to score seven more in the second to go up 14-0 at the break.

Wesleyan's junior Blaire Harley then scored the lone Bishop goal at the tail end of the third quarter unassisted. RMC would add six goals total in the second half to go on for the win.

Sophomore goalie Devin Bautz went on to make 6 saves on 26 shots on goal with a ground ball while Harley led the way with 3 shots attempted. Harley and senior defender Deja Hartman also each led the way with two ground balls apiece. Hartman and freshman Lily McCarty also each caused one RMC turnover as well.

RMC (2-0) tallied 18 ground balls to the Bishop's 10. Wesleyan will next return to action on Saturday when they head west to Greensboro to battle Guilford College at 11 AM.
