Lacrosse edges Huntingdon in Overtime

MONTGOMERY, AL - The NC Wesleyan College lacrosse team edged conference foe Huntingdon College 12-11 in overtime for their first win of the season on Saturday in Alabama. 

Sophomore midfielder Blaire Harley led the offense scoring 7 goals in the game including the game winner in overtime on a free position shot. 

Wesleyan led 2-1 after the first quarter with goals from Harley and senior defender Aydriyan Upchurch  off a Deja Hatman assist. Harley added another goal in the second quarter as the teams went into the break tied at 3 apiece. 

The teams then traded goals back and forth in the 3rd quarter with HC taking a slim 8-7 led into the fourth. Harley added her third goal of the game in the third while senior attacker Deja Hartman scored twice in the third. Sophomore attacker Aisling Key also added a goal in the final minute of the third to get the Bishops within one.

Finally in the 4th period, Wesleyan took back the lead with goals from senior MF Madeline Graham and Harley to go up 9-8. Harley would then score two more in the fourth as the teams traded goals back and forth until HC sent it into overtime with their tying goal at the 7-second mark.

Harley then won the game on a free position shot with 44 seconds remaining in the second overtime. Goalie Devin Bautz played her best game of the year making 17 saves on 28 shots on goal while Harley led with three ground ball pickups.

The Bishops will now head to Asheville to battle winless Warren Wilson College on Sunday at  2pm.
