Lady Bishops Crush William Peace for 3rd Straight Win

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 18-7 conference win over rival William Peace from Scalf Field on Wednesday afternoon for their third straight win.

The Bishops now improve to 3-6 on the year. The 3 straight wins are also their most consecutive wins in a row in school history.

The team will immediately return to action tomorrow to host Greensboro College at 4 pm from Scalf Field.

Sophomore midfielder Blaire Harley led the Bishops with 6 goals on 13 shots in the game along with a ground ball and a caused turnover as she helped Wesleyan build a 5-2 first quarter lead with her 3 goals. Sophomore Nakayla Chatman and Madeline Graham also added first quarter goals.

Wesleyan would then stretch their lead to 7-3 midway through the second quarter with goals from seniors Aydriyan Upchurch and attacker Deja Hartman. However, WPU (1-6) would then go on a 4-2 run to head into the half down by just two to the Bishops at 9-7. NCWC also received another goal from Harley in the quarter and one from freshman attacker Lily McCarty.

However, after some halftime adjustments, Wesleyan would go on to dominate the second half shutting out the Pacers 9-0 in the half and outshooting them 17-5.

Wesleyan saw goals from five different players in the third quarter as Chatman, Hartman, Graham, McCarty, and Upchurch all scored in succession to make it 14-7 Bishops going into the fourth. The final quarter then saw Harley score two more goals while Upchurch added her third goal and senior defender Karlee Bjurstrom tallied her first of the year as well.

Upchurch, a defender, also set a career high with 8 ground balls in the win to go along with her three goals and 2 caused turnovers. Graham and Hartman also each finished with two goals and one assist apiece while Graham and senior defender Emily Sullivan recorded three ground balls each. Chatman and McCarty also had two goals apiece and picked up three ground balls.

Sophomore goalie Devin Bautz finished with 5 saves on 12 shots on goal as well as NCWC outshot the Pacers 38-16 overall.
