    In Wednesday's much-anticipated USA South women's tennis tilt, the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan proved themselves to be a force within the league with a dominating 9-0 sweep of Methodist University at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. Wesleyan did not give up a set to the five-time defending champion Monarchs, turning in six straight-set wins in singles play.

    The women's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan kicked off its spring season on Saturday against a pair of highly-touted opponents at the University of Mary Washington Invitational. The Bishops opened with a 9-0 loss to Division I George Mason University, then dropped a 7-2 decision to the 22nd-ranked Eagles later in the day. Newcomers Valeria Berber and Sofia Gonzalez picked up NCWC's lone two points against nationally-ranked UMW with a pair of straight-set wins at the #4 and #5 seeds, respectively.

    This past weekend, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's and women's tennis teams welcomed youth players from across the state to participate in the first-ever USTA Bishops Challenge. The event featured 40 kids in three different age brackets separated by gender (U12, U14, U18).

    In women's tennis action, NCWC freshman Sofia Prado went 4-0 in singles play to win the Flight #4 Championship at this weekend's Methodist Fall Invitational. Playing just her second collegiate tournament, Prado did not give up a set en route to wins over players from William Peace, Hollins, Mt. Olive and Barton.

    The women's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan opened its season over the weekend at the ITA Fall Regional Tournament hosted by Emory University. Competing with one junior, one sophomore and four freshmen, the youthful Bishops were impressive in their first tourney, tallying 12 wins in singles play and a series of quarterfinal appearances.
