Wesleyan Men Return to Action with Pair of Road Victories

Abington, Pa. / Media, Pa. - The N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team returned to action over the weekend with a pair of road victories at PSU-Abington and PSU-Brandywine. The Bishops (7-4) have now won six of their last seven contests.

At Abington on Saturday, the Bishops were able to secure a hard-fought 84-75 win. After trailing 42-36 at the break, the Bishops used a 13-6 run to open the second half for a 49-48 lead at the 14:34 mark. It proved to be a back-and-forth affair from there, with the game's fourth tie coming at 68-68 with 4:58 to go. Three-pointers by sophomore Adrian Moore and senior D.J. Weaver, however, highlighted an 8-3 run that gave the Bishops a 5-point lead, and they would not trail again.

Moore finished with a game-high 19 points, with senior Devontae Williams adding 17. Weaver and Brandon Brown netted 16 and 15 on the night.

Sunday's game at Brandywine featured a 104-54 Wesleyan victory. The Bishops shot 56 percent from the floor and had five players reach double-figures. Moore and Williams chipped in 15 points apiece, while Brown and Weaver added 13 and 12, respectively. John Edwards added 10 off the bench in addition to a game-high five steals.

Moore averaged 17 points over the two-game span, knocking down 14-of-18 of his attempts from the floor. He also notched 11 steals to anchor Wesleyan's defense.

While the road trip culminated with a pair of victories, head coach John Thompson was also pleased to offer his Bishop players a tour of historic Philadelphia, as well as a chance to practice at the legendary Palestra. The trip also saw Wesleyan practice at Temple University and meet iconic coach John Chaney.

Wesleyan kicks off USA South play on Wednesday night when the Bishops host the Cougars of Averett University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm and admission is FREE to the public for this game only!  NCWC will be honoring the Rocky Mount Senior High Football State Champions at halftime.
