Men's Basketball Rolls to Opening win over MACU

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team rolled to a season-opening road win over non-conference foe Mid-Atlantic Christian University (NC) 78-67 on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Rob Wilson led the Bishops with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists in the game as he helped the Bishops pull away with a 40-point second half as they outscored the Mustangs 40-35 in the second after taking the first 38-32.

Wesleyan would go on to shoot 45.8 percent overall for the game and 28.6 percent from three while MACU was held to just 20 percent shooting from three-point range and 32 percent overall while they also missed half of their free throws.

Junior center A.J. Frye also had a good game finishing with 17 points and 8 rebounds while sophomore guard Damon McDowell also had 16 points with 9 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Senior guard Justin Tankelewicz also finished with 12 points, 2 blocks , 3 rebounds and a steal to complete the quartet of double-figure scorers.

Forward Ricardo Bullock also had 6 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks in the game as well.

Wesleyan improves to 1-0 while MACU falls to 0-2. The Bishops are in action again next Saturday to play former rival Ferrum College (Va.) in a neutral site game at Mary Washington University (Va.) at 5 PM before facing Guilford the following day.
