Bishop Men Drop Matchup with Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford College limited the NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team with their defense holding the Bishops to just 50 total shot attempts and 50 points in defeating the Bishops 67-50 on Sunday evening in Greensboro in the Guilford College Classic.

Guilford (3-1) led 31-25 at halftime as each team shot 40 percent in the first half. The difference came on free throws as GC was 83 percent from the stripe whereas the Bishops were just 50 percent.

Wesleyan did cut into the GC lead  as they tied the game at 39 with 10 minutes to play. However, they then shot just 28 percent from long-range in the second half and only 39 percent overall in the half totaling just 25 points as they could not complete the comeback falling 25-36 in the half.

The Bishops (0-3) were led by All-Tournament members, senior forwards Rico Bullock and A.J. Frye. Bullock led the Bishops in the game with 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists while Frye had just 7 points with 4 boards and 2 helpers. 

Fellow Senior forward Mitch Layton also finished in double-figure scoring with 10 points and a team-best 8 rebounds while senior guard Cameron Martin also finished with 6 points. Freshman guard Tim Pettiford also played well posting team-highs in blocks, steals, and assists with two apiece in each area along with 4 points and 6 rebounds.

Wesleyan will be back in action on Tuesday night when they head to Wilmington to face UNCW (2-2) in an exhibition game at 7 PM.
