Martin's 32 Lead Bishop Men to Win

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team used consistent shooting throughout the game and senior Cameron Martin's career-high 32 points to roll to a 99-77 win over Berea College at home on Saturday.

Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 21-8 lead on Berea thanks to Martin's 5 of 5 shooting and 3 early 3-pointers before Berea made a run cutting into Wesleyan's lead. The Bishops would take a 47-44 halftime lead on 46 percent shooting and 53 percent from three including 5 three-pointers from Martin.

Martin would then knock down three more treys in the second half to help lead the Bishops on a 32-14 run en route to the big win. He finished with 32 points and 8 threes, both career-highs, while he also had 4 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Wesleyan outscored the Mountaineers 52-33 in the 2nd half shooting 60 percent from the floor and holding Berea to just 34 percent shooting in the half. Wesleyan also made 13 threes throughout the game.

Senior center A.J. Frye also had a good game scoring 23 points, 15 in the second half, along with team-highs in rebounds with 7 and assists with 6 as well as a steal and a block.

Junior wing Damon McDowell had a solid game as well scoring 18 points with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Senior forward Rico Bullock also added 8 points and 5 rebounds with 2 assists while sophomore forward Isaiah Lewis scored 6 points with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

The Bishops got back to .500 with the win at 11-11 overall and 7-7 in the conference while Berea falls to 9-12 and 5-9 in the USA South.

Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday when they head to Methodist for a 7:30 tip.
