NC Wesleyan Defeats Apprentice School

Rocky Mount, NC – The North Carolina Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team hosted the Builders from Newport News Apprentice School on Tuesday evening, November 29th. The Bishops came away victorious with a 84-55 win against the Builders, advancing the Bishops record thus far to 4-3 (0-0).

The Bishops would get on the scoreboard first with a jump shot by Senior Isaiah Lewis, and the Builders would answer with a lay up to tie the game 2-2. The first half of the contest would be a back-and-forth battle with the Bishops pulling away in the last minutes of the half to take a 9 point lead going into halftime. During the first half of play, the Bishops shot 41% from the floor while shooting 39% from behind the arc and going 6-8 (75%) from the free throw line.

The second half left no questions unanswered for the Battling Bishops with a strong defensive performance to shut down the Builders. With just over 4 minutes left in second half, the Bishops gained the biggest lead of the contest at 34 points, ultimately sealing the deal in favor of the Bishops, 84-55. During the second half of play, the Bishops shot 59% from the floor,  50% from the arc and 60% from the free throw line.

Four Bishops scored in double digits, with the game leading scorers having 15 points each. Brayden Dixon, the senior point guard from Charlotte, NC, as well as Austin Manley, the junior from Apex, NC, were the men behind those statistics, both scoring an impressive 15 points. Dixon was also accredited with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals completing a solid game for the Bishops.  Isaiah Lewis, the senior from Knightdale, NC, followed their lead with 13 points, while also adding 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 blocks. Kyron Kelly, the junior forward from Fayetteville, NC, scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and one assist. The Bishops defensive leader was Sal Young, the senior forward from Raleigh, NC, who completed a solid game including 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Bishops will host the annual Roger Taylor Invitational this weekend on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan University. The Bishops (4-3, 0-0) will face off against Mid-Atlantic Christian (3-1, 0-0) at 8 PM on Friday, December 2nd to commence the weekends events.
