Bishops Defeat Knights In Final Seconds

Buena Vista, VA – The North Carolina Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team traveled to Southern Virginia University; the Bishops defeated the Knights in the last seconds of the game, 74 to 73.

The Bishops would get on the scoreboard first with a layup by Kyron Kelly, the junior from Fayetteville, NC, within the first minute of the game. Southern Virginia would then answer by going on a 7 to 0 run before the Bishops got back on the scoreboard. The Bishops would go on their own 5 to 0 run to tie the game 15-15 in the middle of the first half. The Bishops then would put together a 10 to 0 run that helped put the Bishops to lead going into halftime 34-28.

In a back-and-forth second half the Bishops would add another 40 points and hold off in the last seconds of the game to defeat the Knights 74 to 73.

The Battling Bishops capitalized by scoring 20 points off turnovers to show the depth of the team with an impressive 34 points coming off the bench. Four Bishops would score in double digits against the Knights. Austin Manley, the junior from Apex, NC, would lead the Battling Bishops scoring 18 points by shooting 6 of 11 from the floor and 3 of 6 from behind the arc. Brayden Dixon, the senior from Charlotte, NC, helped the Bishops to push past the Knights with  17 points, while also adding 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Justin Burden, the freshman from Fayetteville, NC,  scored 12 points while being 5 of 7 from the floor and 2 of 2 from behind the arc. Sal Young, the senior from Raleigh, NC, had an impressive night for the Bishops adding a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan are now 9-3 and will host Pfeiffer University this Saturday at 2:00PM in their own Everett Gymnasium.
