Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman Nicole Liette headed home a Rebecca Staylor assist in the 61st minute for the eventual gamewinner as the N.C. Wesleyan women's soccer team secured a 3-2 victory over Chowan University on Sunday at Scalf Field.

The Bishops out-shot the Hawks 10-0 early in the match, but it was Chowan that took the initial lead with a score at the 28:34 mark. Wesleyan finally broke through less than a minute later when Staylor received a through ball from Chelsea Laurens and beat her defender for the goal.

NCWC would later lead 2-1 at the break thanks to a beautiful Staylor free kick that was headed in by sophomore Paige Brooks.

In the second half, Liette was able to convert a nicely executed corner set for a 3-1 Bishop advantage.  It would prove to be the gamewinner after the Hawks were able to tally a second goal in the 73rd minute.

NCWC freshman keeper Vanessa Batchelor made a pair of key saves in the second half, the latter of which came with less than three minutes remaining. CU goalie Jennifer Harvell made nine saves on the day to keep her team in the match. Wesleyan out-shot Chowan 27-8 and held a 5-3 advantage in corners.

The win came on the heels of a 4-1 loss at Meredith College on Saturday to open USA South play for the Bishops (2-3-1, 0-1 USAS). Staylor netted Wesleyan's loan score, while Batchelor and fellow keeper Haley Hopkins combined for 13 saves.

NCWC continues USA South play next Saturday and Sunday when the Bishops travel to Greensboro and Averett, respectively. Both matches are slated to start at 1:00pm
