Rocky Mount, N.C. - Senior Ashley Marks netted the eventual gamewinner to help lead her North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team to a 7-1 win over Mary Baldwin on Saturday at Scalf Field. A 6-0 loss to Christopher Newport on Sunday gave the Bishops a split in this weekend's league action.

Versus Mary Baldwin on Saturday, Wesleyan dominated from the start. Sophomore Rebecca Staylor got things started in the 15th minute when she deposited a Johanna Wallinder cross in the upper right corner. Staylor later tallied the first of her three assists by dropping a ball off for Marks that she blasted home from 30 yards.

NCWC took its 2-0 lead into the half and proceeded to explode for five goals over the final 45 minutes of play. Freshman Sarah Olsowski and Staylor scored the first two unassisted, while sophomore Johanna Wallinder tallied her first career score at the 54:41 mark for a 5-0 Bishop lead.

Freshman Nicole Liette and sophomore Paige Brooks sandwiched a goal by MBC with scores of their own for the 7-1 final. NCWC keepers Vanessa Batchelor and Haley Hopkins each recorded a save, while MBC goalie Erin Dullahan made 10 stops on 32 Wesleyan shots.

On Sunday, the Captains raced out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of play and did not look back en route to the shutout. CNU out-shot Wesleyan 22-8 on the day.

The Battling Bishops (3-6-1, 1-4 USA South) continue conference play next Saturday at home when they host William Peace University at 2:00pm.
